Amy Adams Now Slated to Play Janis Joplin in Biopic

Last year, Zooey Deschanel was slated to appear in a biopic about Janis Joplin, but it never got off the ground, partly due to royalty issues. Now, a new project is in the works, and this time Amy Adams (Enchanted, Junebug) is slated to play the lead.

In an interview with FEARnet [via The Playlist], Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey said that the film is due to come out via his own production company, Temple Hill Entertainment. It will be directed by Brazilian filmmaker Fernando Meirelles, whose previous work includes City of God and The Constant Gardener.

If you head over to IMBD, you will notice that the film is currently titled Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can. The screenplay was reportedly written by Meirelles and José Eduardo Belmonte.

At this point, the project is slated to start filming in the fall, and Godfrey says that it will "probably go." Still, given the the previous hurdles in getting a Joplin biopic of the ground, we probably should hold off before getting too excited just yet.
