Amon Tobin

Chaos Theory

Only slightly less obtuse than Amon’s dense and dark signature, the soundtrack for the Chaos Theory videogame is heavy, sinister and fast. It is anxious music, with tracks like "Penthouse Fight” keeping a rolling, noisy jog that incurs images of someone running crouched down and unprepared. It is ghostly and crisp, intense and frantic while still being highly organised. It tugs at the fight or flight instinct — perfect for a video game, really. As a listening experience it makes me jumpy with its loud and haunting assertions. While it’s not hard to appreciate the musicianship here, it makes me uncomfortable, and I don’t like feeling uncomfortable.
