Amanita Bloom

'Neither the Sea Nor the Land' (album stream)

BY Matthew RitchiePublished Jan 21, 2014

While hometown heroes in their native Montreal, the folk-pop foursome known as Amanita Bloom have been mostly absent from Anglophone radars. But with a new album in the bag — their first since 2010's Furniture — and a return to the eerie atmospherics that made their debut such a success, the band are looking to change all that. Listen to their sophomore set, Neither the Sea Nor the Land, by streaming the album in full ahead of its January 31 release through Sainte Cécile.

Taking cues from the same kind of aural odysseys that Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds seem to find so appealing, Amanita Bloom deliver psychedelic cowboy jams ("Just Like Skin") and ambitious stoner anthems ("Nam Ta," "The Same Kind") that coalesce in a marriage of modern-day Americana ("Fucking Around the House") and classic rock bravado ("Blow for Blow"), fully showcasing the up-and-coming country-fried act's sweet grooves.

Hear for yourself by streaming the album in our player, which can be found underneath the band's tour itinerary below.
