The second band to take the stage at the Commonwealth last night (February 25) was AM Static, performing wonderfully rhythmic songs guided by lush keyboards and synths. Lead singer Chris Austman was in good spirits, making jokes and coaxing the crowd forward as the room began to fill. From their first songs, it was immediately clear that AM Static are influenced by the likes of Hot Chip, Field Music and Outfit, but they maintained their own sound regardless, all shifting rhythms and quirky sounds.

The band performed songs from their Juno-nominated debut A Life Well Lived, starting off with tracks such as the quietly urgent "Sirens." The bopping of "Broken Toys" charmed, while the band saved an epic track, "Glaciers," for last. AM Static's music was highly textured and intimate, with a danceable quality to it, and they balanced the beat with the heartfelt core of their songs to create a warm and refreshing experience for the audience.
