Allhelluja

Pain is the Game

It’s hard to deny the power of the semi-new subgenre of death’n’roll. Semi-new because Entombed were doing it in ’93, but no one got around to giving it that cool name until a handful of years back. Italy’s Allhelluja may not be entirely death and are more heavy stoner rock, but given that at least half of the dudes are wearing Entombed shirts in the band pic, it’s hard to not brand them death’n’roll. So let it be written, let it be done, and let’s turn up tunes, like this album’s "single,” "Superhero Motherfucker Superman,” and feel the power. Sure, it’s a bit childish at times, and I think the bass-heavy production has damaged my inner ear but, man, it sounds good. It’s a one-trick pony but absolutely no one could put on tunes like opener "Are You Ready?” and that deny it rocks. By the album’s midway point, the party’s dying and by song nine it’s almost awkward that these guys still want to rock, but what the hell, they’re not hurting anyone.
