All Shall Perish

Awaken the Dreamers

It seems that hardcore music and death metal are continuing to coalesce into one demonic being. Amongst the acts of this new deathcore label stand All Shall Perish, who have come back from the dead (google their "Australian bus crash” story) to release their second full-length album, Awaken the Dreamers. What you get are a bunch of slower, chuggier portions, which I would hate to label breakdowns, because in their placement and variation they don’t come off sounding like Unearth’s use of basically the same breakdown in every song. These slower crunchers are mixed with more modern death metal elements to create the appropriately named deathcore. It’s not a bad final product, although there are some very weak softer parts. Also, listen closely to the last track, "Songs for the Damned,” as it contains a kitschy lyrical theme of including song titles from other metal bands around the world (i.e., "Metal hearts drown in blackwater parks”). It’s kind of corny but still fun to listen to and point out songs you know.
