Ali Koehler Exits Best Coast, Drops Solo Track

While Frankie Rose recently announced her upcoming solo album Interstellar, she's not the only former Vivian Girls drummer moving onto greener pastures. Ali Koehler, who left the trio to hit the skins for Los Angeles stars Best Coast, has now quit that band.

While a reason for the split was not given, music journalist extraordinaire Carles at Hipster Runoff observed that Koehler was nowhere to be seen at the band's San Francisco show, instead replaced by "some other random dude who doesn't even look alt."

As Brooklyn Vegan points out, Koehler seemingly confirmed the news on her Twitter, writing, "Super moved by all the support I received today. Didn't know that many people would care. I love you guys." The site also pointed to her new solo Bandcamp page, which boasts three tracks. Have a listen to "Unwell" below.

No official statement has been made from Best Coast as of yet, but the band recently completed recording their sophomore album with help from Jon Brion.

UPDATE: As an annoyed commenter has pointed out, some older tweets from Koehler hint that she may have actually been fired from Best Coast. Koehler also tweeted things like, "Not my choice, sorry if you're disappointed," "I'm sorry, I'm equally disappointed" and "your guess is as good as mine." But as much as we like to play tweet translator, without some kind of actual clearly thought-out statement, it's a bit tough to draw any real conclusions as what went down between Koehler and the band from these "facts."
