Alex Lukashevsky of Deep Dark United Preps Solo Album, Shares New Tracks

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 19, 2012

In addition to once fronting Toronto eclectics Deep Dark United, Alex Lukashevsky releases music under his own name, and later this month will put out his third solo disc. Entitled Too Late Blues, it will arrive on September 25 through Idée Fixe.

The album is a document of Lukashevsky's collaboration with Toronto vocalists Daniela Gesundheit (Snowblink, Bruce Peninsula) and Felicity Williams (Bahamas, Hobson's Choice), with whom he has performed as a trio since 2009.

A press release describes the album as "instrumentally minimalist" but displays a wide range of songwriting influences. These include "shades of folk, jazz, improv, and even calypso."

Get a taste of the album's unique sound by streaming the a cappella number "The Pie," the folk-jazz lament "Too Late Bues" and the tropical-tinged "Princess of Darkness" in the player at the bottom of this page.
