Alchemysts

Zero Zen

BY Sean PalmerstonPublished Nov 1, 2000

Following up their collaboration earlier in the year with Simeon, of Silver Apples fame, this trio of English space-rockers has created a lovely little album that deserves some attention. Located somewhere in the musical hemisphere between Doremi Faso Latido-era Hawkwind and the post-MC5 electricity of Sonic's Rendezvous band, the Alchemysts throw down 14 high energy rockers that sound more 1972 than 2000. Not surprisingly, this record was originally recorded for the UK based Woronzow label, operated by the current king of English psychedelia Nick Saloman (Bevis Frond). If anyone would know a winner, it would be him and you'll have a hell of a fight convincing me that this precious piece of aluminium is not one.
