The Strokes haven't released a full-length album since 2013's Comedown Machine, most recently delivering the Future Present Past EP last year. That could be about to change, however, according to one of the guitarists' famous dad.
In a new interview with the West Australian, Albert Hammond Sr. (father to the Strokes' Albert Hammond Jr.) revealed that his son's band have been in the studio working on some new material.
"They're making a new album now with a great producer called Rick Rubin," he said.
You know, that guy who has helmed production on iconic albums for everyone from Beastie Boys to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Run-DMC, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Adele.
"I speak to my son every day and he says that they're so happy," Hammond Sr. continued. "I'm sure this will be a very successful record."
The Strokes have yet to offer any additional information about a possible upcoming record, but the group's early days were recently explored in Lizzy Goodman's scandalous tell-all history Meet Me in the Bathroom: Rebirth and Rock and Roll in New York City, 2001-2011.
Since the release of Comedown Machine, many of the band members have offered up solo and side-projects; Hammond Jr. released his latest solo LP Momentary Masters in 2015, Julian Casablancas and the Voidz delivered Tyranny in 2014 (and he contributed a solo track to the Vinyl soundtrack last year), guitarist Nick Valensi debuted his CRX project and bassist Nikolai Fraiture formed Summer Moon.
