Alanna Gurr & the Greatest State

'Late at Night' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 15, 2014

If you're looking for an album to listen to in the early hours of the morning, then this one's for you: Alanna Gurr & the Greatest State's new record is appropriately called Late at Night, and it's available to stream on Exclaim.ca ahead of its April 22 release on Missed Connection Records.

Opening cut "Swimmer" begins with the lyric "Fog is rolling in tonight." This sets a nocturnal tone that carries through the eight-song collection in the form of cooed vocals, gentle pedal steel and spaciously atmospheric folk rock arrangements.

The songs were recorded at Toronto's Candle Studios and at Welland, ON's Tapes and Plates (Weather Station, Grey Kingdom), with the results mixed by Dan Weston (Daniel Romano, City and Colour).
