Alan Singley And Pants Machine

Feelin' Citrus

On the surface, Alan Singley doesn't appear to make the best decisions. After all, he actually chose to name his band Pants Machine and is under the impression that it's the type of moniker that will draw people in. The sad thing is once you get past the name, Feelin' Citrus isn't too bad at all. It turns out that Alan Singley is a big Burt Bacharach fan and he does a decent job of emulating him in a similar way to the Heavy Blinkers or the Pearlfishers. And as long as they are turning out nicely orchestrated pop songs, things are just fine. But when things turn quieter or jazzier, Feelin' Citrus begins to lose focus and direction and just isn't so interesting. The real undoing is that there's a little too much focus on the quirkiness and that's a shame because as songs like "Le Rain" and "Seasons Change" demonstrate, they don't need to. It does, however, help to explain their choice of name.
