AGF/Delay Explode

While it promises to be an interesting collaboration, Germany’s Antye Greie (aka AGF) and Finland’s Vladislav Delay fail to present anything worthwhile on this long, drawn-out experimental record. As a dialogue between a woman’s voice and pulsating, manipulated drumming, Explode rarely strays from its rigid, mechanical pace, which is a shame. There are glimmers of life in pieces such as "Causing a Taifun,” "Breaking Doors,” and "Recorded,” but even these end up mired in their composers’ self-indulgence. Though its artfully crafted liner notes and activist stance are admirable, Explode is far too dirge-like as a whole to warrant a second listen. (AGF Producktion)
