Age of Nemesis

Psychogeist

Comparable in style to Dream Theater, the newest Age of Nemesis album Psychogeist is two-thirds concept album and the rest stand-alone songs. I could have done without the matter-of-fact narrative lyrics in the concept songs, but this is pretty decent stuff. I like the musical vibe they bring. This reminds of a more emotional and combustive Dream Theater, kind of like what Digital Ruin were trying to do. The singer writes melody lines and phrases similar to DT’s James LaBrie yet manages to maintain his own individual style. The band are based in Hungary, so some of the vocal phrasings are a bit weird at times, but all in all it is a decent prog metal release.
