Afternoons in Stereo

'Retrospective' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 14, 2015

Canadian electro producer Greg Vickers has been making music as Afternoons in Stereo for 10 years now, and now he's taking the time to look back at the last decade on a new compilation titled Retrospective. The record's not out until next week, but Exclaim! is giving you the chance to stream it early.

Blending organic instrumentation with modern electronic production, Afternoons in Stereo has made a career out of experimenting with sound and genre. Retrospective follows last year's A Jazz Odyssey and revisits the more IDM, club-friendly catalogue numbers.

In addition to 12 career-spanning tracks that highlight the funkier side to Afternoons in Stereo, the new collection opens with a brand new single called "Galaxina," as well as including another new cut called "Asteroid Field Guide."

They merge with tracks from the past like the jazz-infused "Shadows," bass-driven funk tune "Soul Sugar" and the atmospheric electro number "Dusk in Andalusia" to deliver a collection of "funkified '70s disco dressed up in bell-bottoms and cheeky moustaches" — with a modern, sophisticated twist.

Retrospective arrives on July 21 via Timewarp Music, but you can give it an early listen in the player below, right now.
