Adrian Younge Teams Up with Souls of Mischief for Collaborative Album

Throwback soulscapist Adrian Younge has announced he's following up his recent 12 Reasons to Die collaboration with Ghostface Killah with another hip-hop team-up, this time with California rap crew Souls of Mischief. Going by the title Adrian Younge presents Souls of Mischief, the record is expected to drop sometime in September.

As XXL points out, Yonge spoke about the project this morning (July 10) on Sway in the Morning, noting that on top of featuring Souls of Mischief, the album is to be narrated by A Tribe Called Quest's Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Fittingly, Yonge expressed that the song cycle brings to mind those artists' trademark sounds, describing it as "[Souls of Mischief's] 93 'til Infinity meets [A Tribe Called Quest's] The Low End Theory meets De La Soul Is Dead."

Younge added: "If somebody misses that kind of sound, they'll be happy to hear this album because it goes back to that time, you know. Kind of like how the Ghostface album kind of went back to that time. And I love both styles of music back then, so I'm very, very excited. "

Like 12 Reasons to Die, the upcoming LP is a concept record, and it apparently finds the rap group involved in a violent confrontation, with the rest of the record dealing with the aftermath.

"Souls of Mischief almost gets killed by some dude that was just crazy and the whole album just starts off with this incident, and then it blossoms into these different stories that are a result of this volatile incident. And that's basically what that album is about."

While a proper due date has yet to be affixed to the album, Younge reports that the LP is nearly done, and that he's "just touching stuff up."

Earlier this year, Souls of Mischief, along with Black Milk, appeared on a remix of Younge and the Delfonics' "Stop and Look," which you can hear down below
