Adam Franklin / All Systems Go! / Sianspheric / The Carnations

The Carnations manoeuvred like a teenage indie rocker's wet dream, the way they worked so tightly around their set. Sianspheric woke the small crowd up halfway through the first song with a blast of spacy chords. Their signature blend of dissonant drama was strangely bracketed with cute and witty banter from the seemingly sombre band-mates. With All Systems Go! front-man John Kastner whipping his dreaded head all over the place, the energy was much more entertaining to watch than to listen to. The biggest disappointment was headliner Adam Franklin. Seemingly irritated and uncomfortable that more people came to see All Systems Go!, Franklin put on a fairly weak set, with the exception of a few Swervedriver songs and a cover of Motörhead's "Iron Horse." By the time various members of other bands joined him, it was too late for the crowd to fully engage the "shoegazing" flashback that he tried to snottily swoon them into.
