Actress Returns with 'AZD,' Shares "XX22RME"

After landing his own DJ-Kicks release and scoring a short film, English producer Actress (a.k.a Darren J. Cunningham) is set to return with a new full-length. Titled AZD, Cunningham's fifth studio LP will arrive through Ninja Tune on April 14.

Twelve tracks in length, AZD (pronounced "Azid") is said to be "a chrome aspect journey into a parallel world," with tracks drawing influence from artists James Hampton and Rammellzee, Detroit techno pioneers, Jung's Shadow Theory, and the reflective nature of chrome itself.

"Lots of ideas come from dreams, this isn't new, but sometimes the conscious mind starts to meld into the universal consciousness through constellation tunnelling," Cunningham said in a statement.

The announcement is accompanied by album cut "XX22RME" (pronounced "Extreme"), which plays "between the lines of Oriental classic rave and Balinese warehouse techno." The track arrives via a video, which you can watch at the bottom of the page.

Cunningham is also at work on a new live show, set to debut March 24 at London's Village Underground. The producer says it "will be a test frame for linking circuits using various forms of language — MIDI globalized language, lyrical language, Tikal graffiti code and various other synthesizer language — to create one intelligent musical instrument called AZD, if successful it will produce the first translucent, non-soluble communication sound pill synergized through impressionistic interpretations of technological equipment. This is the music vitamin of the Metropolis."
