A-Trak Does the Running Man For Nike's Original Run Series

A-Trak Does the Running Man For Nike's Original Run Series
Following in the running shoe-shaped footsteps of LCD Soundsystem and Aesop Rock, DJ/producer A-Trak has hooked up with Nike to craft the company’s next workout mix. Given the painfully obvious title Running Man, the continuous 45-minute mix by the Montreal-born, New York-based Kanye/Jay-Z collaborator is set to drop exclusively through iTunes on June 24 and will mark the newest instalment in Nike+’s "Original Run” series.

Like the other "Original Run” releases, A-Trak’s mix of electro and hip-hop is geared specifically for runners, gradually building up for some warm-up action, bringing in an extended middle section for you to really get your run on and eventually ending in a down-tempo cool-down. Throughout, the mix features a few vocal contributions, such as one by Kid Cudi, and a cut from the beginning segment called "Say Whoa” will be offered as A-Trak’s first single off the mix.

Here is A-Trak’s contribution to the Nike press release for Running Man:

Making a 45-minute piece was interesting in terms of arrangement. Here, a guy is running and it's all about pacing. You want to keep him in the zone, you want to keep his attention, but at the same time there's much more room to spread out than on a record I might produce for a club. I've been mostly working on up-tempo electro tracks as of late, but my background is hip hop and I think you can hear it in my choice of sounds. I wanted this record to showcase my current style, but I also didn't want to stray away from hip hop completely. That's why you find guest rap verses, plenty of chopped and screwed vocals, and a hefty dose of drum breaks that are surely more block party than Ibiza.

In other A-Trak’s news, he has string of tour dates slated for the summer, and in efforts to "green” his tour, he is encouraging concertgoers to avoid car transport by putting on Running Man and jogging their way to the show. Okay, that last bit is not true, but he really is touring.
