While currently based out of Berlin, beloved former Pavement leader Stephen Malkmus has announced a good chunk of tour dates that will bring him back to the mother country to support his next album with the Jicks, Wig Out at Jagbags.
Roughly a month after the record's January 7 due date via Matador, Malkmus will kick off the North American tour in Denver on February 12. Canadian fans, meanwhile, can look forward to appearances in Toronto and Montreal at the end of February, while Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria will get to see the band in April.
Along the way, Malkmus will play with a bunch of different openers, including Tyvek, Disappears, Endless Boogie, Purling Hiss and Speedy Ortiz. You'll find the full show schedule down below.
As previously reported, the 12-song Wig Out at Jagbags was recorded at a Dutch farmhouse near Amsterdam and found Malkmus self-producing the set with assistance from Remko Schouten. The LP is the first to feature Joggers skinsman Jake Morris, who took over for Janet Weiss (Wild Flag/Quasi) after the release of 2011's Mirror Traffic.
According to the outfit's ringleader, the album was inspired by "Cologne, Germany, Mark Von Schlegell, Rosemarie Trockel, Von Spar and Jan Lankisch, Can and Gas; Stephen-Malkmus-imagined Weezer/Chili Peppers, Sic Alps, UVA in the late 80's, NYRB, Aroma Charlottenburg, inactivity, Jamming, Indie guys tring to sound Memphis, Flipper, Pete Townshend, Pavement, the Joggers, the NBA and home life in the 2010's…"
