54-40 Get 'Lost in the City' on New Album, Plot 30th Anniversary Tour
So far, 2011 is shaping up to be a year of anniversaries. While Sloan and Pearl Jam are each celebrating 20 years, 54-40 are now in their 30th year as a band. To mark the occasion, the riff-rocking British Columbians are dropping a new studio album and embarking upon a Canadian tour.

Entitled Lost in the City, the collection will arrive on iTunes on May 28 and in stores on June 14. You can also pre-order an autographed copy directly from the band.

The album was recorded with producer Dave Oglivie in a number of studios including Hipposonic, 604 Studio, and the band's own Smiling Buddha Enjoyment Complex. A press release promises that the nine songs offer "pleasing melodies with captivating vocal arrangements in a collection of songs delivered in the unmistakable 54-40 style."

As for the theme of the collection, singer Neil Osborne gave this explanation: "Lyrically, the concept was to take expressions from traditional blues songs and apply them to a 54-40 approach in the 2011 world. What's so common today is the increasing pace of life and the pervading sense many of us have of being overwhelmed. Against this backdrop, Lost in the City was born."

This summer, 54-40 will take the new album on a cross-Canada tour. Interestingly, they will be passing up major markets like Vancouver and Toronto in favour of festivals in small towns like Peachland, BC, and Sauble Beach, ON. See the schedule below the tracklist.
