It's been a while since we've heard from rapper 50 Cent and his long-awaited Street King Immortal album. Now, however, he's making headlines for much more sinister reasons after being charged with a domestic violence incident related to his former girlfriend and the mother of his child.

According to the L.A. Times, the performer born Curtis Jackson allegedly began destroying the woman's property during a dispute on June 23. The woman locked herself in her bedroom, at which point Jackson allegedly kicked in the door and kicked her.

The rapper was charged with five criminal counts, including one of domestic violence and four of vandalism. He allegedly destroyed $7,100 in property, including chandeliers, furniture, a closet and a television. If he's convicted on all counts, he could face five years in jail and $46,000 in fines.

"Regardless of perceived celebrity or notoriety, domestic violence is a serious crime and alleged perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law by this office," City Atty. Mike Feuer told the Times. "We will continue to look out for the safety of all victims of domestic violence and seek justice for the alleged crimes."
