14 Year Old Girls

Zombies In Robots Out

BY Andrew SteenbergPublished Jun 1, 2003

Fun-lovin’ upstarts 14 Year Old Girls have managed to parlay an obsession with Nintendo and Devo into a 16-track, 17-minute LP. A truly noble accomplishment when you consider that, unlike Larry Tee and his electroclash co-conspirators, this band’s done it without the slightest hint of bogus irony. Just straight ahead bubble-gum pop — or "Nintendo punk” — here, sung over hock shop synths on heart-warmers like "Galaga,” "Pacman’s in Egypt” and "This is a Devo Cover.” Hell, they even manage to rhyme "scary” with "apothecary” on "Castlevania Punk.” Respect.
