Shovel Headed Tour Machine: Live At Wacken And Other Assorted Atrocities

Divided up into two DVDs and a CD, the first two-thirds of this release feature the band's 2008 performance at one of the world's premiere metal festivals. Their gig is impressive, as Exodus prove to be just as tight, vicious and energetic as they were some 20 years ago, even if the set list is a bit top-heavy on current material. The CD is an exact aural copy of the show, so it does feel redundant, but some people ― introduce us when you meet one ― just love their live albums. The second DVD is the real gem. Almost three hours of Exodus footage unfolds in the form of a five-year retrospective full of road stories, appearances, studio time making Shovel Headed Kill Machine, their Metalocalypse contribution and extras such as deleted scenes, videos and a 1985 interview. Never a group of slouches, Exodus have ensured that Shovel Headed Tour Machine is a valuable offering ― no stopgap in the wait for something new. To that extent, this could only have been cooler were it a career retrospective. (Nuclear Blast)
