'The Witcher' Videogame Series Gets Movie Adaptation

'The Witcher' Videogame Series Gets Movie Adaptation
Andrzej Sapkowski's book series The Witcher has already inspired a movie and subsequent television as The Hexer (released in 2001 and 2002, respectively), but it's best known as the wildly popular trilogy of high-brow RPG videogames. Perhaps proving the story's versatility, it'll now be transported to the big screen with a new movie adaptation.

As Platige reports [via Bloody Disgusting], The Witcher film is being adapted by SDC, the same production company who made The Mummy movies.

While details are somewhat scarce, the film will utilize themes from The Witcher short stories, focusing on Sapkowski's The Witcher, Lesser Evil and The Last Wish. The stories are being adapted by Thania St. John, best known for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Oscar-nominated The Cathedral filmmaker Tomasz Bagiński is slated to direct the film.

It's unclear exactly when it will arrive, but The Witcher is expected for a 2017 release. It's also reported that the film will be turned into a series.
