'X-Files' Is Being Turned into an Animated Comedy Series for Some Reason

The show will apparently revolve around a cast of misfit agents pursuing a bunch of "wacky" cases

For reasons we don't understand at all, X-Files is being turned into an animated comedy series. Yes, really.

So far, the project is going under the name The X-Files: Albuquerque, Variety reports, and it's currently in the works over at Fox.

It already has a script apparently, and according to the publication, the animated show will "revolve around an office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with."

X-Files creator Chris Carter is also on board, and he will executive produce the show alongside Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko, who will also be writing the show. Gabe Rotter is executive producing as well.

For better or worse, OG X-Files stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are not currently involved with the project, which so far is without a premiere date at this point.

The news comes as the X-Files cast and creators recently got back together to recreate the show's theme song — with lyrics.
