Riza Aziz, a producer who worked on Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, has been arrested for money laundering.
According to the New York Times, Aziz was arrested in Malaysia today by Malaysia's Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and will appear in court tomorrow (July 5) in Kuala Lumpur.
Aziz was charged with money laundering. He appears alongside his mother, stepfather and longtime friend in allegations surrounding the disappearance of $4.5 billion USD from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad government investment fund.
Ironically, Aziz's Red Granite Pictures was accused of using stolen funds to finance The Wolf of Wall Street, as well as films like Friends with Kids, Dumb and Dumber To, and Daddy's Home.
Aziz is the stepson of Malaysia's former prime minister Najib Razak. When the scandal first broke last year, it led to Najib losing the national election to Mahathir Mohamad.
