Published Nov 29, 2016Veteran actress Evan Rachel Wood is currently starring in the HBO hit Westworld. In the series she plays Dolores, a robot at the centre of the theme park where guests routinely assault robots. Now, the actress has opened up about her own real-life sexual trauma.
Wood first mentioned her sexual assault in a recent Rolling Stone feature. To make sure she was heard loud and clear, she also shared a lengthy statement on Twitter:
In the letter, she details that she was raped by someone she was in a relationship with, and again later on by an owner of a bar. Both of these things, she writes, were contributing factors to her suicide attempt at 22.
Now 29, Wood opened up about her current state in the wake of the sexual trauma. "I am still standing. I am alive. I am happy. I am strong. But I am still not OK," she said. "I think it's important for people to know that, for survivors to own that, and that the pressure to just get over it already should be lifted."
