Wes Anderson Out-Wes Andersons Himself with the Trailer for 'The French Dispatch'

BY Josiah HughesPublished Feb 12, 2020

Hyper-symmetrical dandy auteur Wes Anderson will return with his long-awaited new film The French Dispatch later this year. We've seen the poster and learned the release date, but it's not a true Andersonian experience until we've enjoyed the visual feast of a trailer.

The French Dispatch looks about as maximalist as we've ever had from the director, bashing together myriad aspect ratios, colour grades and narrative threads as it attempts to introduce us to an old-timey newspaper. Think Michael Bay's ADHD filmmaking, through an aesthetically charming lens.

The film stars Bill MurrayOwen WilsonAdrien Brody, Benicio Del Toro, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, Frances McDormandTimothée Chalamet, Jeffrey Wright, Stephen Park, Lyna Khoudri, Mathieu Amalric, Liev Schreiber, Elisabeth Moss, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Lois Smith, Saoirse Ronan, Christoph Waltz, Cecile De France, Guillaume Gallienne, Jason Schwartzman, Tony Revolori, Rupert Friend, Henry Winkler, Bob Balaban, Hippolyte Girardot and Anjelica Huston. So, pretty much everyone.

The French Dispatch arrives on July 24 via Searchlight Pictures.
