Last year, Showtime delivered the overly earnest, endlessly corny and strangely watchable Cameron Crowe series Roadies before swiftly cancelling it. The network still seems hell-bent on behind-the-scenes showbiz drama, however, as they've just shared the trailer for their '70s comedy-scene series I'm Dying Up Here.
The show is based on William Knoedelseder's 2009 book of the same name, and was produced by Jim Carrey. It follows the intersecting lives of a group of standup comedians in 1970s Los Angeles.
The show is packed with recognizable faces, including Melissa Leo, Ari Graynor, Clark Duke, Jon Daly, Michael Angarano, RJ Cyler, Erik Griffin and Stephen Guarino.
Its trailer suggests that the show will pair the loose, backstage feel of Judd Apatow's Funny People with the period piece look of HBO's Vinyl.
I'm Dying Up Here will premiere on June 4.
