Nic Cage is pushing his natural charisma and underrated acting acumen to previously unseen heights in 2022 as he finally takes on the role he was born to play: himself.

Today sees the release of this first trailer for Tom Gormican's The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which will find Cage playing a fictionalized version of himself (named Nick Cage) who agrees to a million-dollar gig attending the birthday party of his biggest fan, played by Pedro Pascal. However, it turns out this superfan is being investigated by a CIA agent (Tiffany Haddish), who ropes Cage into being an undercover operative. Hijinx ensue.

And if that wasn't enough, Cage is also playing Nicky, a younger version of his fictionalized self who lives as a figment of his imagination.

Cage has previously said that he can't bring himself to watch the film, telling Collider, "It's just too much of a whacked-out trip for me to go to a movie theatre and watch me play Tom Gormican's highly-neurotic, anxiety-ridden version of me."

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent arrives April 22. Watch the trailer below.
