Get ready to be transported to the Rock by St. John's-born comedian Mark Critch as he gears up to share the third season of his semi-autobiographical series Son of a Critch. Today, CBC shared a first glimpse of the season with a full trailer ahead of its premiere on January 9.

Based on his 2018 memoir of the same name, Son of a Critch follows a younger version of the This Hour Has 22 Minutes star as he navigates his final year of junior high and "casts off the last vestiges of his childhood," according to a press release.

"When we first met Mark back in season 1, he had no idea how to navigate the school yard," the statement reads. "But now, after three long years — he still has no idea how to navigate the school yard. He hasn't
learned to fit in but he has accepted the reasons why he stands out."

Notably, the upcoming third season will also highlight Critch's introduction to comedy — without which Son of a Critch wouldn't exist — by showing him beginning to perform stand-up in bars.

Critch himself will reprise his role as his father, Mike, alongside UK-born actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the young Critch. The main cast is rounded out by A Clockwork Orange star Malcolm McDowell as the family's paternal grandfather, Claire Rankin as Critch's mother and Colton Gobbo as his older brother.

As was the case for the first two runs, season 3 will be available to watch on CBC and stream on CBC Gem
