For years, we've been waiting on a sequel to the Canadian cult classic Turbo Kid, but so far, nothing solid has ever materialized. Luckily, there is still hope for Turbo Kid 2.
Speaking to Bloody Disgusting for its "Boo Crew Podcast," Turbo Kid producer Ant Timpson explained that filmmakers François Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell are still trying to get the sequel to the 2006 film off the ground. Apparently, there's already a script, but all they need now is some actual money.
"There's a script for Turbo Kid 2. We want to make it, that's all I can say," Timpson said. "It's really a case of finding the backers [financiers] because it's way more ambitious."
Timpson, who is currently promoting his own directorial debut Come to Daddy, added, "It's kind of like Road Warrior's step up from Mad Max. It's sort of that kind of ambition…you need a little bit more money than we had for the first film. They want to make that a dream project."
As previously reported, the Canadian filmmakers said they were officially working on the Turbo Kid sequel back in 2016, but since then, there have been few updates on the project. As another hopeful sign, IMDB does list Turbo Kid 2 as being in pre-production, so keep those fingers crossed.
In 2018, the trio of filmmakers went on to release their film Summer of '84.
Timpson's Come to Daddy opens in select theatres and hits VOD on Friday (February 7).
