It looks as if there's another moody synth soundtrack on the way from Nine Inch Nails main man Trent Reznor and his collaborator Atticus Ross. They've just signed on to compose the score for Patriots Day, an upcoming film about the Boston Marathon bombing of April 2013.

The news was announced by director Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Hancock), who posted the above photo on Instagram and wrote, "I couldn't be more honored than to be working with these two straight up genius artists. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Bringing their deep soul and fury to @patriotsdayfilm."

Patriots Day will star Mark Whalberg alongside Kevin Bacon, John Goodman, Michelle Monaghan and J.K. Simmons. It's set to come out in December 2016 through CBS Films/Lionsgate Films.

This is the latest in a string of film scores from Reznor and Ross. They've previously worked on The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl. The pair recently honoured NASA's Juno Mission with the original song "Juno."
