Tracy Morgan Gives First Interview Since Car Crash

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 1, 2015

Things took a serious turn for Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock funny man Tracy Morgan last June when the comedian was involved in a debilitating car accident that left him severely injured, and killed his friend and fellow comic James McNair.

A Walmart truck collided into the back of Morgan's limo on the New Jersey Turnpike, killing McNair and seriously injuring Morgan and two other passengers. Morgan sustained broken ribs, a broken leg, a broken nose and suffered severe head trauma from the crash, leading to a lawsuit against the corporate chain.

The legal battle was settled "amicably" last week, and now, Morgan has made his first television appearance since the accident. He appeared on NBC's TODAY this morning (June 1) to be interviewed by Matt Lauer.

He opened up about the emotional year he's had, giving credit to his family and friends for providing support, becoming visibly upset when reminiscing about the late McNair.

When asked about his return to work, Morgan explained that healing is priority for the foreseeable future, but he does plan to return to comedy eventually. "I'll get back to making you laugh," he said.

Listen to him talk about the accident, his recovery process and the settlement with Walmart by watching the interview in the video below.
