'Toni Erdmann' Might Get an English Language Remake

It's been an excellent time for foreign cinema, meaning it'll be a mediocre time for English-speaking remakes in the near future. We've already rolled our eyes at the forthcoming, white-washed remake of the Iranian film Under the Shadow, and now it looks like Maren Ade's German comedy Toni Erdmann might be next in line for some English-speaking actors.

According to Bild [via Indiewire], Ade is fine with letting her beloved comedy get remade by a bunch of classless Americans.

"This would not affect the original," Ade said. "You can shorten the film and make a pure comedy out of [it]. But I would not be the one to do it. I am so happy that I finished the film. It took me five and a half years to write."

While it's true that Toni Erdmann's unique story would likely retain some quality if it were remade, you should still hurry up and watch Ade's original as soon as possible.
