Tina Fey Sparks Controversy with Charlottesville "Sheetcaking" Segment on SNL's 'Weekend Update'

"Find a local business you support — maybe a Jewish-run bakery, or an African-American-run bakery — order a cake with the American flag on it. And just eat it."

Tina Fey delivered many moments of hilarity throughout her tenure as a "Weekend Update" anchor on Saturday Night Live, but her return to the desk last night (August 17) for the Thursday primetime version of the show is garnering more anger than laughs.

The University of Virginia alumnus (sporting a sweater from her alma mater) joined current hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che to talk about the recent violence in Charlottesville. Her advice for combatting the rise of white supremacy in America? Stay at home and eat a sheetcake.

In spite of what were probably good intentions to offer satirical comfort in troubling times (and some high-profile praise for the effort), Fey has also drawn heavy criticism for her response to Donald Trump's utter mishandling of last weekend's violence and the growing racial crisis in the States.
