They're Making a 'Sonic the Hedgehog' Sequel

What a journey it's been for Sonic the Hedgehog. The blue boy was first revealed with some horrifying images and an ungodly trailer before undergoing dental surgery to come out with a nice new smile. Ultimately, Sonic ended up being far better than it had any right to be, and wound up being the last movie some of us saw in theatres before coronavirus hits. If nothing else, the lil guy deserves a second chance.

As Variety reports, the full development team is back to create a sequel to the surprisingly solid first outing. Jeff Fowler will direct, Pat Casey and Josh Miller will write the script, and the whole thing will be produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara, with Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi and Tim Miller executive producing.

However, so far the cast has yet to be confirmed, Variety reports. So it's unclear if Ben Schwartz will once again voice Sonic or if Jim Carrey will return as Dr. Robotnik and James Marsden as the normal guy who reacts to everything. The new movie will also likely feature Tails, whose appearance was teased in the first.

Upon its release, Sonic the Hedgehog had the top opening weekend of all time for a video game movie.

So far, there is no release date in sight for the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel but stay tuned.
