Way back in 2015, we learned that Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer was becoming a TV series. Four long years later, and the show appeared to be in development hell. Fortunately, proving this dystopian choo choo really is The Little Engine That Could, the series is back on the docket.
The show had previously been developed by TNT with showrunner Josh Friedman (Sarah Connor Chronicles), but he left the series over creative differences. Orphan Black co-creator Graeme Manson replaced Friedman, but the latter publicly bashed him for not consulting him. Scott Derrickson, who directed the original pilot, then quit over Manson's "radically different version."
All of that aside, the loco locomotive is back on a new network. TBS has picked up the Snowpiercer series from TNT, and the network has announced it has already renewed it for a second season.
"Snowpiercer is the perfect show to kick off TBS's entry into dramas with intricate storytelling, stunning visuals and first-class acting," TBS's Brett Weitz said in a statement. "We believe in the longevity of this series and that audiences will be amazed by the fantastical world that brings to life such relevant social, political and environmental issues."
The show stars Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs of the rap outfit .clipping, and will premiere in spring 2020.
