'The Outsider' Got Axed by HBO

But Season 2 may still find a home elsewhere

Stephen King's The Outsider will not be returning to HBO for a second season. On the bright side, though, the studio behind the show, MRC, is now going to shop it around.

The news comes via Deadline, which confirmed today that HBO has cancelled the series based on King's best-selling novel. The cancellation is a bit of a shock, to be honest, since The Outsider has solid ratings and King himself recently said a follow-up series was already in the works.

As King explained in October, "I know exactly where it's going because I have seen some of the scripts. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. I'll just say that it's really great and a real spooky paranormal element."

Helmed by showrunner Richard Price, Season 1 of The Outsider starred Jason Bateman, Ben Mendelsohn, Cynthia Erivo, Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vázquez, Jeremy Bobb and Marc Menchaca.

For now, we're just going to have to cross those fingers extra hard that Season 2 actually happens.
