'Human Centipede' Star Dieter Laser Has Died

The actor who played Dr. Josef Heiter has passed away at 78

Dieter Laser, the actor known as the star of the horror film The Human Centipede, has passed away. He was 78.

The sad news was announced with an update on Facebook. A cause of death has not been revealed, but the post revealed that he died on February 29.

Laser was born in Germany and appeared in many German-language films. He crossed over onto English-language screeners with roles in the sci-fi series Lexx and the John Malkovich movie The Ogre.

Laser is best-known for playing Dr. Josef Heiter in 2009's The Human Centipede (First Sequence), in which he took the role of the evil doctor who created the titular human centipede. He returned in a new role for 2015's The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence).

Human Centipede director Tom Six paid tribute to Laser on Twitter, writing a heartfelt message and sharing a few photos:
