While Ghostbusters gave birth to one of the most iconic soundtracks ever, its original 1984 score has amazingly never before been released on vinyl. At long last, that's about to change.
In honour of the film's 35 anniversary, Elmer Bernstein's Ghostbusters (Original Motion Picture Score) will arrive on vinyl as a 2-LP set for the first time on July 19 courtesy of Sony Music. It will also come out on CD a bit earlier on June 7.
The score — which has previously only arrived as a now extremely rare CD set in 2006 — has been newly mixed and remastered from the original multi-tracks, as well as features new artwork, which you can see above. It also includes four four previously unreleased tracks.
In a statement, Peter Bernstein — the son of late soundtrack composer Elmer Bernstein — said, "As one of the original orchestrators on Ghostbusters, it has been very satisfying and also very moving to work on this soundtrack release 35 years down the road. It is a great movie with great music and we had a whole lot of fun creating it. I am very pleased to see it released in its original form."
You can already pre-order both the CD and vinyl edition, with the wax edition being available on clear wax with green haze. Check out the lengthy tracklist below.
