Before Season 5 of The Expanse hits Prime Video next month, Amazon has renewed the sci-fi series for its sixth and final season.

While cancellation news may be a familiar tune to fans, it appears this time around, showrunners intend to end the series for real.

"We're very happy we can give the incredibly loyal and passionate fans of The Expanse the satisfying conclusion to the series that they deserve," Amazon Studios co-head of television Vernon Sanders said in a statement. "We know they'll love how Seasons 5 and 6 unfold."

While no firm return date has been announced for Season 6, Season 5 is set to premiere on December 16 on Prime Video.

The series stars Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper, Wes Chatham and Frankie Adams. Cas Anvar will not be returning to the series following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Created by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, The Expanse was first picked up by SyFy back in 2015. It was cancelled following Season 3, only to be picked up by Amazon again in 2018 for Season 4.
