After learning last year that Clueless would get the television spinoff treatment, the project for NBC's Peacock streaming service has now been cancelled.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that while this revival will not go ahead, the title "remains a valuable one" for CBS studios and will likely be redeveloped for "a potentially different update."

Last year, it was reported that the Clueless spinoff would centre around Stacey Dash's Dionne Davenport character. It was described as "a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latte and Adderall-fuelled look at what happens when queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong No. 2 Dionne steps into Cher's vacant Air Jordans."

Clueless celebrated its 25th anniversary last summer. Written and directed by Amy Heckerling, the cult favourite film helped launch the careers of stars Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd and Brittany Murphy. A previous TV adaptation aired for three seasons between 1996 and 1999.
