'The Babadook' Is Getting an Official Pride Month Reissue

Memes inevitably become real life, and that's exactly what has happened with The Babadook. When Jennifer Kent's beloved 2014 horror film was listed in the LGBT queue on Netflix, many started to joke that the titular top-hat adorned character was a gay icon, spawning plenty of memes and pride parade signs in the process. Now, The Babadook is getting an official Pride Month release.

IFC Midnight has teamed up with Shout Factory to reissue The Babadook Blu-ray in a limited Pride Month edition. The release, which you can see above, sees the creepy figure hanging out atop a pride flag.

Here's the description from the product's official online store listing:

Thanks to the unpredictable world of social media, viral videos and passionate fans, The Babadook became an unexpected and embraced LGBTQ mascot in 2017 and even carried over into last year as well. This year, we fling the closet doors open even further to cement his status!

We've created a special release with participation from our fine partners at IFC Midnight: an official limited edition and numbered Pride Month-themed slipcover packaging that will be shrink-wrapped over our existing Blu-ray release. The slipcover has a gloss finish with embossed highlights.

Proceeds from sales of the Blu-ray will be donated to the Los Angeles LGBT Center, and the Blu-ray is available to order now.
