'Star Wars' Fans Launch a Petition to Get the 'Game of Thrones' Creators Fired

Following a viral campaign by angry Game of Thrones fans to get HBO to remake the show's final season, angry Star Wars fans are now taking similar action, demanding that GoT creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss be fired.

Earlier this month, Disney confirmed that Benioff and Weiss would be writing and directing a new Star Wars film, which is set to arrive on December 16, 2022. But in the wake of some serious disappointment over the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, Star Wars fans are demanding the pair be taken off the project.

The newly launched petition is called "Don't Ruin Star Wars With GOT Showrunners!" and it's addressed directly to Walt Disney Company chairman Bob Iger. And like that viral GoT petition — which has so far collected well over 1.5 million supporters — it's off to a blistering start.

As of press time, the Star Wars petition has more than 10,000 supporters and counting.

"Like Game of Thrones, Star Wars is only successful because of us — the fans," reads the petition launched on Care2. "That's why we need to raise our voices now, before the film begins and ask Disney to choose someone else to do this movie."

It adds, "Star Wars is more than a popular movie. For many, it's a childhood and lifelong passion. If we allow Weiss and Benioff to create this next film, we are surely in for disappointment."
