'Star Trek' Returning to TV in 2017
Offering the encouraging news that CBS won't just be 24 straight hours of Chuck Lorre laugh track sitcoms in 2017, the network has announced plans to revive Star Trek as a television series.

Alex Kurtzman, who wrote 2009's Star Trek movie along with its follow-up Star Trek Into Darkness, will produce the series, which is currently in development.

Boldly going where no show has ever gone before, the Star Trek series will mark the first original programming exclusively meant for CBS' All Access digital subscription service (presumably to make more room on TV for the aforementioned Chuck Lorre laugh track sitcoms).

The Star Trek series is intended to arrive in January, 2017. Prior to that, Star Trek Beyond will open in theatres in the summer of 2016.
