The ever busy St. Vincent has got a film score on the way, but that's not all. The performer born Annie Clark has revealed plans to release a new album in 2017. She's also used her newly published profile in Guitar World to poke fun at the magazine's often sexist cover images.
Clark appears on the cover of the magazine's February issue, and for her big profile she opted to wear a T-shirt with a bikini on it.
Speaking to Guitar World, she said, "I did a quick Google search of women on the cover, and all I really saw was girls in bikinis holding guitars like they've never held a guitar before.... I started thinking about that and just wanted to make my own absurdist comment on it. I couldn't really let it slide without poking a bit of fun and taking the piss a little!"
The covers Clark was referring to were the annual Guitar World buyer's guide issues, which always featured swimsuit models. As Mashable points out, Guitar World publisher NewBay Media LLC decided to scrap the practice, calling it "outdated" and a "misrepresentation of women guitar players."
While Clark would not offer an exact title or release date, she said her next album will arrive in the spring.
"I think it'll be the deepest, boldest work I've ever done," she added. "I feel the playing field is really open for creative people to do whatever you want, and that risk will be rewarded — especially now that we have such high stakes from a political and geo-political standpoint. The personal is political and therefore the political can't help but influence the art. And only music that has something pretty real to say is gonna cut the mustard."
