Published Apr 04, 2017An avid television personality and member of the iconic '90s pop group Spice Girls, Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown has been in the spotlight for decades. Behind the scenes, however, she has apparently been struggling with some serious marital strife. On Monday (April 3), she filed a restraining order against her husband Stephen Belafonte based on some severe and disturbing allegations.
As TMZ reports, Brown has accused Belafonte of beating her, choking her and throwing her onto the ground on multiple occasions.
Further, she alleges that he pressured her into participating in threesomes by threatening to release sex tapes. On a separate occasion, she says Belafonte impregnated the couple's nanny, though she later had an abortion.
The abuse was so much that Brown says she once took a full bottle of aspirin in an attempt to take her own life. At that point, Belafonte allegedly prevented her from leaving the room and yelled, "Die, bitch!"
It appears that Brown also has evidence to back up her claims, as her various television hosting gigs were affected by the alleged abuse. In 2012, producers on X Factor Australia noticed swelling on her face and called a physician. To cover up the abuse, Brown said it was a reaction to shellfish.
Further, Brown had trouble hosting X Factor UK multiple times due to facial wounds that were difficult to cover up with makeup. In late 2014, she missed a filming of the show altogether because of the injuries. At one point, her injuries were so bad that her driver insisted on taking her to the hospital.
In Los Angeles, Brown told X Factor producers that she had attempted suicide due to the abuse. They offered assistance in helping her move out, though nothing became of it and she went back to Belafonte. Through it all, authorities were never contacted.
The couple filed for divorce last month after a 10-year marriage. They have a five-year-old daughter together, as well as three children from previous relationships.
