Sony Announces 'Ghostbusters' Animated Series

If you're one of those cranky old nerds who's pissed off about the forthcoming all-female Ghostbusters movie, you should theoretically be even more angry about the next reboot. After all, it doesn't even star any real human beings but is instead an animated series!

Sony had previously toyed with the idea of an animated Ghostbusters movie, but that was shelved in favour of a forthcoming animated series.

Variety reports that the new series is called Ghostbusters: Ecto Force. The show is being spearheaded by Ghostbusters creator Ivan Reitman. It will take place in the year 2050, for some reason, and will feature an entirely new batch of ghost-busting characters.

Of course, this isn't the first time the Ghostbusters have been animated. The crew were also turned into cartoons for The Real Ghostbusters, which aired from 1986 to 1992.

Stay tuned for more on Ecto Force as it becomes available, and if you're not a sexist dork you can also catch Paul Feig's Ghostbusters movie in theatres on July 15.
